About the Artist

Elizabeth Shahenian is an American Armenian descent multidisciplinary painter who draws on the natural world for her subjects. Her style is a juxtaposition of bold colors and softer primaries, particularly effective with large canvas floral studies against a colored background. The rich tone from oil provides depth and symmetry on koi carp and water lily canvases which projects a striking realism with real impact. She manages to create an almost photographic quality to her Mare and Foal portraits that captures a tangible tenderness. All her artworks are one-off pieces rather than one of a series and all characterized by her distinctive brush stroke and use of colors and mixed media. Her paintings are a mix of oil, acrylic, gouache and charcoal, tempera, on canvas, rice paper and wood often incorporates gold leaf. They vary from 2 feet to 10 feet and above for the large flowers panoramic and abstracts. In a style that Elizabeth describes as a fusion of realism and contemporary impressionism, she produces brilliant pieces that unashamedly flaunt amazing colors, lustrous dept and invite intrigue. These laudable achievements would be impressive on their own, but also add to the equation that Elizabeth actually uses her fingers, as well as traditional brushes and pallet knife, to paint many of her works.” Here is what Tim Broughton, Editor of Art LA Magazine in His review of Elizabeth art wrote about her brilliant themes in the Art LA Magazine “Elizabeth Shahenian is an artist of extraordinary panache, vivid interpretation, and of course immense and seasoned talent. Working in oils she conjures images that abound with vibrant color, and a depth that seems to go on forever. Elizabeth has a portfolio that is as broad as her artistic vision, and with a current focus on a trio of subjects (Koi, Floral, and Horses), Elizabeth exemplifies the principle that a stablished style and identity can have more than just one representative personality.

Elizabeth’s paintings grace many private collectors and are eagerly sought after by museums, galleries and auction houses in the U.S. and Europe. Her extraordinary talent, skills and creativity differentiate her from her contemporaries, her stunning exhibits make her a favorite of art curators. Elizabeth’s paintings are deeply symbolic and resonate with people from different nationalities, cultural backgrounds and social milieus. She is an artist who is much loved, more so because her work celebrates the beauty of life and sends out a message of love, compassion, joy, peace and harmony. On September15, 2016 Armenia's Ministry of Diaspora awarded the prestigious Arshile Gorky Medal to Internationally acclaimed painter Elizabeth Lizo Shahenian during a ceremony at the Consulate General of Los Angeles.

Her artwork has been featured in articles in Southwest Art Magazine (October 2011); Art LA 2012 Magazine best artist of 2012. In 2010, 2012, 2013, several paintings were published in the WWB of International Contemporary Masters, Volume 5, Volume, 4 and Volume 8, which was followed by several exhibitions at the Southern Nevada Museum of Fine Arts, Las Vegas, Nevada.
